Family of Jeanette Blackwell Hatton (1908-2011)
Nellie Grey Wilson McFarland, 105, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at her home.
A native of Vance County, the daughter of the late Llewellyn and Lille Grey Davis Wilson. She received her AB Degree in education from Duke University and MA Degree in administration from the University of North Carolina. She taught school in Vance and Granville Counties. She was member of Oxford Baptist Church where she was a Deacon Emeritus, Past Superintendent of Young People’s Department in Sunday School and a Sunday School Teacher. She also was Past President of the Woman’s Missionary Union at Oxford Baptist Church. She was Past President of the Oxford Junior Woman’s Club and Past President of the Classroom Teachers Organization. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Organization and United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday September 17, 2104 at 11:00 A.M. at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford with Rev. Chris Aho and Dr. Steve Bolton officiating.
Surviving are two great nieces; Cynthia Johnston and husband Kirk, Bonnie Stewart and husband Tim, all of Charlotte, devoted caregivers; Mary Watson of Henderson and Delois “Dee Dee” Hart of Henderson, Hallie Hester of Oxford and Tonya Overby of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Downey “O.D.” McFarland.
Visitation will follow the graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.
